WASHINGTON PARK STATION;  NEWARK, NEW JERSEY

These works were commissioned by New Jersey Transit for location at the Washington Park Lightrail and Bus platform on Broad St. in Newark, NJ.  The first piece, titled "Windshields" serves as a windscreen on the bus platform and  consists of 2 pairs intersecting African inspired shields etched glass and framed in stainless steel.  The second piece, a  200 foot long fence located at the platforms edge, is a grouping of 4 foot tall aluminum letters painted in  two  shades of blue to alternately create two intersecting sentences readable  from both front and back.  The sentence reads "Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall."
